Friends and Family of Chris. Not many people come into one's life so fleeting, yet leave such a great feeling of friendship, goodness and community. My brief encounter with Chris was through playing on the US National Team and Chris' unwavering support, interest, knowledge and diligence. Through candid phone conversations about the history of women's soccer (I'm sure he knew more than me and I am a part of it :)), artifacts, all the wonderful people and places we have both been because of the sport we love, we became buddies. Long distance buddies, but like all of the people before me have posted, it is not tough to feel comfortable around Chris. And it is fun to talk instead of text, have someone listen & inquire deeper instead of give canned answers... and laugh. I have an old print that Chris gave me of the very first women's soccer game. I look at it often and it makes me smile to think that print was given to me simply because he knew how much I would appreciate it. Things like that made him truly happy.. to make others happy. I am so sorry he will not be around to make so many others happy, yet am thankful that out of the millions of people on this earth.. I somehow bumped into Chris. Love and Prayers Amy Griffin

Dear Unger Family, I'm not sure how to begin; I haven't seen Chris in too many years and didn't realize he was ill. So you can imagine my shock when I saw his obituary in the paper. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Chris was the kindest, most soft-spoken and gentle spirited person I have ever met. Knowing him made me a better person and I am so grateful to have been gifted with his friendship. I will always remember him young, vibrant, kicking a soccer ball and smirking like he just got away with something. He leaves a legacy of kindness and empathy for others that we all can learn from. Thank you Chris for touching our hearts, you'll never, ever be forgotten. God Bless you on your journey!

Dear friends and family of Chris, please accept my condolences for your loss. I'm another classmate who had not seen Chris since our graduation. Funny how we all remember him the same way though. Soccer, for sure, but I remember him as a glowing, happy, blonde kid, who was always smiling. Sounds like that was to be the story of his whole life! Such a sad loss. Peace to you all. e

As the water of life continues to flow, downstream to the it's final destination, so go the memories we hold dear. I think back to the days we all spent together, back along the historic Barge Canal. Like the memories we have of the times we spent together, before we all took off, traveling on the new paths which we have found, I find that I feel like the circle has begun to come back around to where it all began. I celebrate the great times and wonderful memories I have of another of our old friend, Chris. It sounds as if he lead a memorable life, filled with great family and great friends. Gone too soon...remembered fondly by many. Go in peace, Chris, and know we are all better for having known you as our friend.

Although we've all gone on different journeys through life the passing of an old friend from our school days brings back sweet memories. I'll always remember Chris's smile, his good nature and skill on the soccer pitch. I'm sorry for the lose of this great guy. Stephen Cobb, Spencerport class of '71

Although I had not seen Chris since our high school graduation in 1971, I instantly remembered his face when I saw it most recently upon the announcement of his passing. Chris had one of those thousand watt smiles that lit up whatever room he was in And you just knew that smile signaled a gentle, happy soul. Just as gentle as Chris was off the field, he was a fierce competitor on the soccer pitch. He was an indispensable member of the Varsity soccer team, a team that was recognized as one of the best programs consistently in the state of New York. Spencerport has lost a native son and Rangers everywhere extend their deepest sympathies to Chris's family and close friends. Rory Frazee Class of 1971 Houston, Texas

A kinder and gentler person I've never met. Never any ill-will towards others or unkind words. Always seemed to be happy. Enjoyed my time in highschool with Chris and I will not forget him. God Bless Chris.

We remember Chris well, as he coached soccer while our daughter was in high school and in travel soccer and ODP. He was always ALWAYS kind, gracious, and exuded compassion and love of people and the sport.. When we saw this we were shocked, and saddened. Though we haven't seen him in a long time, we will always remember the love and light he shared. Our daughter was Audrey Springer.

To the family & friends of Chris: I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Hadn't seen Chris since high school, but memories of him are fresh & memorable. I watched his skills on the soccer field. If he had his Letterman jacket on he would look the same as he did so many years ago. Glad your battle is over, sweet, Chris. See you again in Heaven.

Chris started out as our neighbor in 1995, and we thought we were lucky. Having him as a friend of almost 20 years was our true blessing! He was one of the most kind and generous people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Our friendship became like "family" over the years, and watching Chris fight cancer with such grace and courage was truly inspirational. he will live in our hearts forever. He touched us in so many ways and made us want to be better people, and remember to always give people a chance, and never judge. Heaven gained an angel on January 22,2015... for sure!!

Dear John, Kenny, Kim, Mary,Paul and Phil, It was such a joy to meet you all and spend time with you while caring for Chris. Please know that my heart goes out to you and that both you and Christopher will be in my prayers. I dreamed about him last night.....he was young again, cute as a button, and we were walking from the village up Lyell Ave for some reason! We laughed and joked around but I don't recall what we were talking about! But, at least I got to see him again! What a great dream!! Love, Kitty
