Dan led many hikes for the Adirondack Mountain Club. He used to like to bushwhack, go off trail, a few times on some of his hikes. It became kind of a signature for him, and when others would bushwhack on their hikes, someone would say he was doing a Dan Wilson. Dan could be gruff, but he was a kind and giving person. I enjoyed chatting with him on hikes. He also was very skillful. I know he repaired a hiker's snowshoes in his shop, and he did a lot of work on a project at Hamlin. In one of my last conversations with him before he stopped hiking on Sundays, he was happy because he had met someone he enjoyed being with. Dan was a positive force. My condolences.
