Obituary of Phyllis Kalmbacher

Bergen: Phyllis A. (Dash) Kalmbacher passed away peacefully at Crossroads House in Batavia, NY on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the age of 91.Born in Licking Township, PA on August 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Cloyde and Maude (Garis) Best. She was predeceased by brother, Arnold Best. Phyllis was a 1944 graduate of The Genesee Hospital School of Nursing (Rochester, NY). Her life long career as a registered nurse included working at Bath VA Medical Center, Jones Memorial Hospital (Wellsville, NY) and Canandaigua VA Medical Center, from which she retired in 1985. She was predeceased by husband, Harold Dash. Survived by their 3 daughters, Cheryl (Dash) Valvano and her husband Steve of Churchville, NY, Deanna (Dash) Lands and her husband Marc of Ellijay, GA, and Jacalyn (Dash) Ferreira and her husband David of West Palm Beach, FL. She remarried and was preceded in death by Earl Kalmbacher. Survived by 2 stepdaughters: Anna (Kalmbacher) Dutter and her husband Gordon of Springwater, NY, and Peggy Kalmbacher and her husband Ken Safranec of Matthews, NC. Phyllis is also survived by her brother Charles Eugene Best and his wife Esther of Coldspring, TX; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, traveling and feeding the birds. She especially loved watching for her two favorites, the hummingbirds and cardinals. She was a member of Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Churchville, NY. Phyllis will always be remembered for her comforting and caring heart. She was a true joy to all who knew her and will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Congregational Church, Churchville. Following the service family and friends will gather for continued remembrance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phyllis' memory to Crossroads House (a comfort care home), P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021 or to Union Congregational United Church of Christ, 14 N. Main Street, Churchville, NY 14428.
