Obituary of Jon Korber

Jon Karl Korber, 72, died peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY the evening of March 8, 2016 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was born in Boonville, NY on November 27, 1943, the son of Karl and Mary (Middlemiller) Korber (Hunt). He was married to his wife of 43 years, Laureen (Leary) on November 17, 1972. He is survived by her, by his daughter, Erin (Christian) Lowry; grandson, Alexander Lowry; several cousins. After growing up in Boonville, Jon earned a B.S. Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and then moved to Rochester, NY, where he was employed by Eastman Kodak for over 35 years. He and Laureen were residents of Spencerport for over 40 years, moving to Hilton in 2015. Jon began spending summers in Brantingham, NY early in life and continued to spend time there throughout his life where he was a valued member of the community. Particularly after his retirement in 2003, he spent much of his time there boating, enjoying the company of friends, and caring for his mother, Mary Hunt, who predeceased him in January 2014. An avid water-skiier in his youth and boater throughout his life, Jon enjoyed the outdoors, international travel, Western films, military history, and especially spending time with his family and numerous friends. Jon's funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd., Hilton on Saturday at 11:30 AM, with an informal reception to follow at Union Street Eatery, 2139 N. Union Street Spencerport. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A reception will also be held this summer in Brantingham, NY at a date and time to be arranged. Contributions may be made to Wilmot Cancer Institute, University of Rochester Medical Center, 601 Elmwood Ave, Box 704, Rochester, NY 14642 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) in Jon's memory.
