Bobbi lost her brave battle against cancer on September 16, 2018, at age 49. Predeceased by her father James P. Carroll, she was survived by her loving husband Edward McCaffery, Jr., sons Ted and James, mother Maryann Carroll, sisters Mary (Mike) Mahony, Peg (Eric) Wilcots, Cindy (Mike) Nolan, Maureen (Anthony Miller) Carroll, Kathleen (Sandeep) Mannava, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

Bobbi graduated from Spencerport High School, where she had many fond memories of playing volleyball and basketball, and of drama club, choir, and many good-natured shenanigans. She played volleyball for Union College, where she earned her BA in both Spanish (which she spoke fluently) and Sociology.  She began her career working with at-risk inner-city children. In the mid-nineties, she found what she would later describe as her true calling: helping in the effort to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, a field in which she would work for 22 years, first as an outreach worker and medical case manager, then as an educator and program coordinator. For the last year of Bobbi’s life, she found new passion and fulfillment in medical research coordination, working as Common Metrics Senior Trainer and Coordinator for the University of Rochester’s Center for Leading Innovation and Collaboration. 

Fun-loving and kind, Bobbi devoted her life to helping others. She was a caring and generous friend to sisters, in-laws, cousins, classmates, coworkers, neighbors, teammates and fellow parents. A fantastic storyteller, Bobbi’s power of recollection was legendary (she occasionally even improved those memories.) She loved pranks, and she was often hilarious. Bobbi had strong beliefs, and one of those she held most deeply was that everyone should be treated with dignity and compassion. She lived that belief every day, noticing nearly everyone who crossed her path and offering them warmth and kindness.

Her greatest joy was family, and she loved nothing more than to spend time with her boys at family parties, soccer games and such.  Married to Ted/Ed for nearly twenty years, she was incredibly proud that their sons Ted and James have grown into bright, thoughtful, kind, generous and hard-working young men. 

Calling hours will be at Walker Brothers in Spencerport on Thursday, September 20, 4-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 22 at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport.
