Obituary of Eugene M. Dunn

Peacefully on May 27, 2020 at age 96.  Predeceased by his wife, Arline Dunn; grandson, Seth Bumbarger. Survived by his children, Mike Dunn, Mary Kay (Larry) Wise Jr., Dianne (Kirt) Bumbarger, Eugene (Sue) Dunn, Colleen (George) Collichio Jr., Julie (Glenn) Nasso; grandchildren, Cody Wise, Murphy Wise, Max & Eileen Wise, Nathan (Bethany) Bumbarger, Ian (Kayla) Bumbarrger, Anne Bumbarger, Sarah Dunn, Jennifer (Kenny Leung), Katie Dunn, James Dunn, Johnathan Dunn, Louis Collichio, George Collichio, Sentina Collichio, Brianna Collichio, Jessica Nasso; great grandchildren, Bruce, Elim, Gabrial, Jace, Henry, Katherine; sister, Norine Parnell.

Eugene (Gene) Martin Dunn was born to William and Julia on May 28, 1923, in Hornell New York. He was one of 6 children, 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Gene’s Father died at a young age and his Grandfather moved in with the family to help them during the Great Depression. Gene graduated from Aquinas Catholic High School where he did dishes to pay for the tuition. After graduation, Gene worked for a short time at Bausch and Lomb before he joined his 2 brothers in Europe on June 30^th 1942 during WWII, he fought with the 256^th US Field Artillery Battalion. Gene married Arline Powers on November 27, 1958 and moved to Spencerport in 1964 where they raised 6 children; Michael, Mary Kay, Dianne, Eugene, Colleen and Julie.

Gene retired from General Motors in 1986 after working at the Rochester Products division for 36 years. Gene attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport for over 50 Years. He was deeply devoted to God, his Family, his Country and he was proud of his Irish heritage. Arline's brother Donald died young and left behind a wife and 5 young children. Gene and Arline fed and provided as much as they could for Arline's sister in law and her children for many years even though they had little to spare. All were welcome at the “Dunn House”, and though it was small no one in need was ever turned away. Gene's wife Arline was sick for decades and though those were painful and trying years, you never heard him complain. Gene stepped over life’s adversities like puddles in the street, moving forward, 1 step, 1 day at a time, focused on completing the race.

Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Those that knew and loved Gene bear witness to the abundance of fruit in his life as he exemplified Christ’s spirit by example every day. Gene will now be given a gift that all those that Love the Lord pray to hear when we exit this world. 

Matthew 25:21 - His lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
